Description

Dear Parents,

To provide your student an opportunity to practice their reading skills I have posted assignments in Compass Learning (www.thelearningodyssey.com). There are two folders that are assigned, one that is entitled, “Due 3/26 and Due 3/27.” Those are the due dates for each of those assignments, however your once your scholar has completed them, they are welcome to work on another folder that they have not yet completed.  I have also posted books on Raz-Kids, based on your child’s current reading level, and the due dates for those are also on 3/26/2020.

For Kindergarten students, their assignments will be related to the skills that our students need based on their most recent MAP test scores.

Please be safe and careful, and check our district website often. Please feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions or concerns. Thank you.

Past Assignments

Due:

Week of May 4-8

Greetings All,

The focus for this week in ELA/Writing/ Reading is revising sentence drafts by adding in details and pictures. (TEKS: K.10.C) Your child's assignments this week will focus on taking simple sentences, and adding in more detail and descriptive words

This week in Social Studies, your child will begin learning about money and how it helps us get the things that we want and need. (TEKS :B.14.A). Please use this opportunity to discuss the importance of earning, saving and donating money. (Especially now!)

This week, if your child is done completing all assignments, use this opportunity to let them select a text they would like to read. Please provide assistance as needed, but do not read it all to them and have them repeat back to you. This does not give your child the opportunity to decode words, and use the sight words that they have previously learned. Thank you in advance for all that you do, and please let me know if you need any additional assistance or support.Coin Song

Due:

Week of April 27

Greetings All,

The focus for this week in ELA/Writing/ Reading is editing sentence drafts with adult assistance. (TEKS: K.10.D) Your child's assignments this week will focus on editing sentences for capitalization, spacing and punctuation.

This week in Social Studies, your child will continue learning about jobs that people have and what tools are necessary to do those jobs. (TEKS :B.7.A). Please use this opportunity to discuss what career your child would like to have and why they feel it is important.

If you have not already, please take this time to have your child read and record themselves on their Running Record. If they have completed that, they will have new books located under the "My Assignments" tab in Raz Kids (Learning A-Z). As always, please reach out if you are having difficulty or are in need of assistance. Thank you for all that you do!

Due:

Assignment

Greetings All,

The focus for this week in ELA/Writing/ Reading is establishing a purpose for reading a text. (TEKS: K.5.A) Your child's assignments this week will focus on reading for entertainment purposes, and answering questions about what they have read.

This week in Social Studies, your child will be researching different jobs that people have (TEKS :B.7.A), and the tools they need to support it. Use this opportunity to discuss the different jobs that people in your community have, and why they are essential.

Also, I have extended the due date for Running Records in www.kidsa-z.com If you have not already, please take this time to have your child read and record themselves. It is a part of their final grade, and it's important to have accurate reading levels in preparation for the First Grade. If you are having difficulty logging on, or accessing your child's page, please let me know. Thank you and have a great week!

Due:

Assignment

Greetings All,
This week, your child will be reviewing different concepts of print that we learned in class (front cover, back cover, author, illustrator). They will also read several texts and should be able to explain if the elements in the text are fantasy or reality. For example, if they see a pig with wings, the text would be fantasy/fiction because those things would never happen in real life.  Also, your child has been assigned a "Running Record" to complete on "Raz-Kids/Learning A-Z." Please have your child read this passage and record themselves on the computer so that I can check their reading progress. If your child has completed that, please have them read a book of their choice from the "Reading Room."
